Blazing Star

Blazing Star was one of the last great shooters of the Neo Geo's heyday: gorgeous graphics, explosions everywhere and a soundtrack that won't let you sit still. For a lot of players, it was the perfect send-off to a decade of arcade shooters.

It isn't on UsuArcade yet, but it's on the arcade wish list.

History

Blazing Star came out in 1998 on the Neo Geo, developed by Yumekobo and published by SNK. It's the sequel to Pulstar, another side-scrolling shooter on the same hardware.

It's remembered for its breakneck pace, its lineup of ships and some delightfully odd English voice lines that fans still quote.

How to play

It's a side-scrolling shooter. Pick a ship from the lineup, each with its own pilot and weapon type. Tap the button for rapid fire, or hold it to charge up a far stronger attack that fires when you let go.

Knowing when to spray and when to charge is the key to surviving and to racking up points. Bosses take up much of the screen and switch patterns as you wear them down. Two players can play at once.

In the arcade

Blazing Star is coming soon to UsuArcade. It's on the wish list, and you can vote for it with the “I want to play it” button. Meanwhile, the arcade has Aero Fighters for two-player shooting, plus Slap Fight and Xain'd Sleena, right in your browser with friends watching.

Once Blazing Star lands in the arcade, you'll be able to play it online two-player, each on your own phone or PC, in the same game.
