Strikers 1945

You could hear a Strikers 1945 cabinet from the arcade entrance: roaring prop planes, screens packed with bullets and enemies that, just when you thought they were done, unfolded into something way worse. Teaming up with a buddy was the only way to get far.

It isn't on UsuArcade yet, but it's on the arcade wish list.

History

Psikyo released Strikers 1945 in 1995. It's a vertical shooter set in an alternate World War II, mixing real aircraft with sci-fi enemies.

It spawned sequels and is one of Psikyo's best-known titles, a studio closely tied to 90s arcade shooters.

How to play

Pick from several fighters, like the P-38 Lightning, the Spitfire or the Zero, each with its own main shot and secondary weapon. Fire upward, grab power-ups to widen your spread and save bombs to clear the screen in a pinch.

Hold fire for a moment and let go to unleash a charged attack unique to each plane. The bosses are the main event: ships, trains and fortresses that crack open into giant war machines. With two players at once you split the firepower, and the screen gets even busier.
