Twin Cobra was one of those vertical shooters that tested you from the very first screen: tanks that aim straight at you, gunboats, turrets and a hail of bullets that kept you moving every second. With a buddy flying the second chopper next to you, every stage felt like a war.
It's not playable in our arcade yet, but it's on the UsuArcade wish list and your votes can move it up.
History
Toaplan developed it in 1987, the Japanese studio that would become the name in shooters of the late 80s and early 90s. In Japan it's known as Kyukyoku Tiger.
Toaplan had already made waves with Slap Fight, and later came Truxton and other games that defined the vertical shooter with tons of bullets on screen.
How to play
You fly an attack helicopter as the screen scrolls upward. One button fires and the other drops a bomb that clears out enemies and bullets in a wide area, perfect for getting out of a jam. Bombs are limited, so save them for when you really need them.
Grab colored power-ups to switch weapons, from a wide spread to more focused shots, and pick up several of the same color to power them up. Ground enemies love to wait until you pass and then fire, so memorizing where they show up is half the battle.
Fun facts
- In Japan it's called Kyukyoku Tiger.
- It was made by Toaplan, the studio behind Slap Fight and Truxton.
- Your bomb wipes enemy bullets off the screen as well as damaging enemies.
