Super Sprint

Super Sprint was the wide cabinet with three steering wheels in a row, perfect for battling two buddies to see who crossed the line first. The whole track fit on one screen, so everyone saw everything: every drift, every wreck and every pass on the final turn.

It isn't on UsuArcade yet, but it's on the arcade wish list.

History

Atari Games released Super Sprint in 1986, following in the tire tracks of Atari's 70s Sprint racers. Its three-wheel cabinet made it a natural for groups.

It got a follow-up, Championship Sprint, and was a big hit on home computers too.

How to play

Each player drives a tiny race car with a steering wheel on overhead tracks that fit on a single screen. If there aren't three players, the machine drives the other cars.

Wrenches pop up on the track: collect enough and you can upgrade traction, top speed or acceleration. Watch out for oil slicks, tornadoes and gates that open and close. Win the race and you move on to a new track.

In the arcade

Super Sprint is coming soon to UsuArcade. It's on the wish list, and you can vote for it with the “I want to play it” button. Meanwhile, the arcade has racers like Out Run and Hang-On, plus Rally-X if you like overhead driving, right in your browser with friends watching.

Once Super Sprint lands in the arcade, you'll be able to play it online two-player, each on your own phone or PC, in the same game.
