Play Bomberman World online

Bomberman means a room full of friends and friendships on the line. Drop a bomb, box your buddy in and run while everyone else cracks up. History

Bomberman World is the arcade game Irem built in 1992 around Hudson Soft's famous character. Depending on the market it also went by other names, such as New Dyna Blaster: Global Quest or Atomic Punk.

Compared with the console versions, the arcade release went for a fast pace and same-screen multiplayer, built so the cabinet never sat empty.

How to play

You move around an overhead maze full of breakable blocks. Drop bombs that blow a few seconds later in a cross pattern; the blast takes out blocks and enemies, and you too if you don't get clear.

Some blocks hide power-ups: more bombs at once, longer flames, extra speed and more. In the adventure you clear stages of enemies together; in battle, last one standing wins. The golden rule: never trap yourself.

• The cross-shaped blast makes you think in angles: standing diagonal to a bomb is the safe play.
• It's one of the Bomberman arcade games that supported four players at once.
• The character was born at Hudson Soft, but this arcade game was made by Irem.

In the arcade

Just like the arcade, only from your own couch: sit down at the Bomberman World cabinet, invite your friends once they're in the lobby and play the same game together, trying not to blow each other up. Nothing to install: it runs in your browser on phone or PC, gamepad supported, and every game starts with INSERT COIN, free.

Your friend can even jump in after you've already started. Anyone else in the lobby can drop in as a spectator and watch live while chatting, and your scores go up on the arcade's high score board.
