On UsuArcade, Snow Bros.: Nick & Tom plays as online two-player co-op: you on your phone or PC, your friend on theirs, in the same game and in real time. If there was one cabinet where two buddies (or two siblings fighting over who got to be Nick) always ended up together, it was Snow Bros. Bright, cheerful and easy to get in five seconds: pack the monsters in snow, give them a shove and watch them plow through everything in their path.

History

Toaplan developed Snow Bros.: Nick & Tom in 1990. The studio was best known for shooters, but here it went for the single-screen platformer style that Bubble Bobble had made huge.

It was a hit in arcades across Europe and Asia, made its way to several home systems, and became a go-to two-player game over the years.

How to play

Every screen is a fixed level packed with platforms and monsters. You shoot snow, and a few hits trap an enemy in a snowball. Push it and it rolls, bouncing down the platforms and wiping out everything it hits. The more you take out at once, the more points and prizes you get.

Colored potions boost your speed, power or range. Every so often a giant boss shows up. Take too long to clear a screen and an enemy appears to chase you down and hurry you along.

Fun facts

  • Nick is blue and Tom is red. At the arcade, picking colors was the first fight.
  • If you don't kick a trapped enemy in time, it breaks free on its own.
  • Clearing a whole screen with a single snowball drops a special prize.

In the arcade

Just like the arcade, only from your own couch: sit down at the Snow Bros.: Nick & Tom cabinet, invite your friend once they're in the lobby and run Nick and Tom at the same time, rolling snowballs down the screen. Nothing to install: it runs in your browser on phone or PC, gamepad supported, and every game starts with INSERT COIN, free.

Your friend can even jump in after you've already started. Anyone else in the lobby can drop in as a spectator and watch live while chatting, and your scores go up on the arcade's high score board.
