Rygar is one of those action games you remember for its hero: a warrior with a spiked shield on a chain that he hurls at anything in his way. Tecmo released it in 1986, and its fast pace, with monsters coming at you from every direction, made it a favorite in arcades.

History

Tecmo released Rygar in 1986; in Japan it was called Argus no Senshi. It mixed platforming and action in a world with a mythological feel, and its hero became one of the company's icons.

The home versions were very different from one another, and the NES game, with more exploration, is remembered as fondly as the arcade original. Years later the series came back with a new adventure on consoles.

How to play

Push right, jumping between platforms and attacking with the diskarmor, a shield on a chain that has long reach and cuts through enemies. You can also jump on top of many monsters to stun them and keep moving.

Every round has a time limit, so don't hang around. Along the way you'll find items that power up your attack or give you points, and some make you invincible for a few seconds. Clear a round fast and you get a bonus.
