Magic Sword was the sword-and-sorcery cabinet in the arcade: a warrior with blade, magic and shield climbing floor after floor through a monster-infested tower. Every time you opened a cell and a new partner stepped out, the whole game felt different.
It isn't on UsuArcade yet, but it's on the arcade wish list.
History
Capcom released Magic Sword in 1990 with the subtitle Heroic Fantasy. It was one of Capcom's early-90s fantasy action games, close in spirit to Black Tiger.
Its ally system, letting you swap partners as you go, gave it a variety you rarely saw in arcade games of its time.
How to play
You're a hero climbing a tower dozens of floors high to take down the evil Drokmar. Slash with your sword, or hold the button and release it for a magic attack. Along the way you find better weapons and items.
Keys you pick up open cells holding prisoners: a wizard, a knight, an amazon, a ninja and more. Whoever you free joins you in battle, and you can trade them for someone else later on. Some secret exits let you skip floors. Two players can play at once.
Fun facts
- The allies you free have their own attacks and get stronger as you go.
- Hidden exits let you skip part of the tower.
- Supports two players at the same time.
In the arcade
Magic Sword is coming soon to UsuArcade. It's on the wish list, and you can vote for it with the “I want to play it” button. Meanwhile, the arcade has other fantasy adventures like Ghosts 'n Goblins and Black Tiger, plus Golden Axe for two-player hack-and-slash, right in your browser with friends watching.
Once Magic Sword lands in the arcade, you'll be able to play it online two-player, each on your own phone or PC, in the same game.
