Point Blank was the light gun cabinet everybody walked up to, not just the folks looking for a shootout. Instead of soldiers and zombies it had bullseyes, tin cans, falling objects and cardboard cutouts, in super-short challenges that changed every few seconds. Couples, siblings and whole groups of friends passed the guns around, laughing, to see who had the best aim.

It isn't in the UsuArcade arcade yet, but it's on our wishlist. If you remember Dr. Don and Dr. Dan, give it your vote.

History

Namco released it in 1994; in Japan it's called Gun Bullet. Its hosts, Dr. Don and Dr. Dan, a pair of goofy scientists, became the faces of a small series with several sequels.

It also got a much-loved home version played with Namco's console light gun, which turned plenty of living rooms into a carnival shooting gallery.

How to play

Point the gun at the screen and pull the trigger. Each stage is a different mini-challenge: hit every target of one color, break objects before they hit the ground, nail the center of a bullseye or shoot only what moves. You've got very little time and one clear goal.

Miss the goal or shoot something off-limits, like a bomb or an innocent bystander, and you lose a life. You start by picking a difficulty, from a practice course up to one for experts. With two players it's even better: each with your own gun, competing on the same challenge for the high score.

In the arcade

Point Blank is coming soon to UsuArcade. It's on the arcade wishlist and you can vote for it with the “I want to play it” button; the most-wanted games get in first.

Until then, the arcade has other reflex-testing games to play with friends: Track & Field, for side-by-side competition; Tapper, where precision means sliding drinks without spilling; and NBA Jam, two-on-two. Free in your browser, with chat, spectators and arcade high scores.

Once Point Blank lands in the arcade, you'll be able to play it online two-player, each on your own phone or PC, in the same game.
