Elevator Action was a tiny spy movie in a cabinet: drop onto the roof, work your way down floor by floor, slip through the red doors and wait for the elevator while enemy agents pop out of everywhere. Tons of atmosphere and easy to pick up.

It isn't in the UsuArcade arcade yet, but it's on the wish list.

History

Taito released Elevator Action in 1983. It mixed platforming, shooting and a bit of strategy with a spy theme you rarely saw in arcades back then, and it got sequels years later.

The magic was the building itself: the elevators and escalators are both your way down and your biggest trap.

How to play

You're a spy who has to collect secret documents hidden behind the red doors of a building, then reach the basement where a getaway car is waiting. Walk the hallways, ride elevators you control yourself and shoot the agents stepping out of the blue doors.

You can jump, duck under bullets and shoot out the ceiling lights: drop one on an agent and he's done, plus the floor goes dark for a while. You can even squash agents with the elevator.

Fun facts

  • Skip a red door and the game sends you back up to grab it.
  • Shooting a light knocks the power out on that floor for a little while.
  • Two players alternate on one cabinet.
