Mr. Do! was the maze game for players who already had the ghosts' patterns down cold. Here you dig the maze yourself: a little clown tunneling through the dirt to grab cherries while monsters chase him down the very passages he just carved. And on top of that, there are apples you can drop right on their heads.
It isn't in the UsuArcade arcade yet, but it's on our wishlist. If you remember the music and the EXTRA letters, give it your vote.
History
Japan's Universal released it in 1982, at the height of the maze-game boom that followed Pac-Man. It was the company's biggest hit and led to several sequels starring the same clown.
It was ported to a ton of consoles and home computers, but the one people remember is the arcade version, with its bright colors and that frantic pace once the monsters start digging after you.
How to play
You guide Mr. Do! around the field, and every step carves a tunnel. Your weapon is a magic ball you roll down the passages that bounces until it hits a monster; then it takes a moment to come back to you. You can also dig under an apple so it drops and squashes whatever is chasing you.
There are several ways to clear a round: eat every cherry, wipe out every monster, spell EXTRA by beating the letter monsters, which also earns you an extra life, or find the rare diamond. Eating eight cherries in a row nets a nice bonus, so plan your route.
Fun facts
- Spelling EXTRA earns you an extra life.
